Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery Announced as a Story-Driven Mobile RPG

Today, Portkey Games has announced that they're publishing a story-driven RPG based on the Harry Potter world. Before you assume this is old news, don't confuse it with the previously announced Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, being developed by Niantic, the minds behind Pokemon Go.

The game is planned to portray the life of a Hogwarts student through a mobile gaming experience.

From their website:

"Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is the first game in which players can create their own character and experience life as a Hogwarts student. The game will launch under Portkey Games, a new label dedicated to creating experiences inspired by the magic and adventures of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World."

"The new game lets Harry Potter fans live the dream of becoming a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by creating their own character and progressing through their years at Hogwarts. Along the way players will participate in all of the magical classes and activities they have come to love – like Defence Against the Dark Arts, Potions, Duelling Club, and more. Most of the iconic professors from the Harry Potter stories reprise their roles in the game."

Many fans have been raving for a Triple-A Harry Potter RPG, which would assumedly be featured on current generation consoles and PC, but will this latest mobile title make waves? The mobile market isn't as notorious as it has been in the past. Small improvements have been made over the years, but nothing to put it on par with console gaming. Will a franchise like Harry Potter push it over the bar?

In other wizard school news, Chucklefish is working right along on its still unnamed magic school game. Similar to Stardew Valley, it has players tasked with simulating the daily life of a student in a wizardry school.
