Hugh Jackman will not return to play Wolverine in the MCU

Since November, there have been rumblings of Disney buying most of Fox's assets, most notably Fox's Marvel properties such as X-Men and Fantastic Four. With that said, the one character fans have REALLY wanted to see play with The Avengers is the one and only Wolverine.

Hugh Jackman's version of the character had a tremendous send-off with the film Logan. The actor did say in an interview that he'd consider returning if the character got the chance to fight alongside the world's mightiest heroes. Sadly, now that it looks like that's going to finally come to fruition Jackman won't be tagging along.

Speaking with Collider, Jackman discussed how he always dreamt of this but believes it would be better for another actor to tackle the new iteration of Wolverine in the MCU.

“It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together. And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, “Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,” and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline — it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously — I was like, “Hang on!” But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else, I would like to see Wolverine in there.”

Jackman likely didn't think that Fox and Disney would get so close to making a deal so soon after he hung up the claws so maybe he made a promise that he didn't intend on keeping. It makes sense why he doesn't want to return, he wants to move on and also make sure the character gets a definitive ending.

Reports suggest we may hear about the finalization of the deal between the two Hollywood giants later this week, keep an eye on GameZone for any developments.
